Councils We Convene

Through support provided by the Ittleson Foundation, TrueChild convened 37 leading researchers, non-profits, policy-makers and funders at the Ford Foundation to explore forming a National Council on Gender to promote gender transformative approaches to reproductive health and gender-based violence. Focused especially on at-risk communities, the Council is set to launch in the second quarter of 2012.

Reports We Read

When the American Association of University Women's went to update their landmark 1991 report "Hostile Hallways," they asked TrueChild to conduct an extensive literature review. The result of two decade's work by AAUW researchers, Crossing the Line stands as the definitive new study of sexual harassment and gender-based bullying among middle-school and high school students. for educators, community groups, and students themselves.

Programs That Work

Through support from The California Endowment TrueChild is partnering with the YWCA of Watsonville to adapt ¡Cuídate! (Take Care of Yourself), a CDC evidence- based program so it's more effective at combating high rates of unplanned teen pregnancy among young, at-risk Latinas.  We're combining ¡Cuídate! with Promundo's well-known Program M/ujeres, which has a strong focus on challenging machista codes of femininity, to make a single, more effective curriculum.
