Internship Opportunities
Internships at TrueChild are unpaid with academic credit with academic credit available upon request and opportunities for growth for those who prove themselves as standout hires. A few stipends may be available for well qualified fellowship candidates who can offer more than 20 hours of work per week in a given field.
 
TrueChild is a action tank and advocacy group working to help all children break through stereotypes so they can be their true selves and achieve their full potential.
 
Internships are available in the following areas:

Development & Fundraising

Responsible for aiding in Fundraising efforts in the following areas:
  • Grant prospecting, drafting, and proofing
  • Special event logistical support & event sponsorship research
  • Donor database management.
  • Assisting donor stewardship through letter writing, phone calls, and emails.
 
Skills:
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel recommended.
  • Researching websites
  • Experience with HTML, Access (or SQL databases) not required but a plus
  • Flexibility & a capacity to multitask on deadline essential

News Media/Communications

Responsible for aiding in Media & Communications efforts in the following areas:
  • Research write and proofread news stories
  • Assist in developing publications, constituent updates, press releases and event notifications.
  • Assist with media campaigns through social networking sites like Twitter & Facebook
  • Research appropriate reporters & media outlets
 
Skills:
  • Experience with writing and editing required.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Word, HTML, and internet research recommended.
  • Experience with Quark and Adobe Photoshop a plus.
  • Flexibility & a capacity to multitask on deadline essential

Research

Responsible for aiding in Research efforts in the following areas:
  • Locate, summarize and report findings from surveys and studies related to gender stereotypes and children/youth.
  • Review and evaluate television programming, websites, products (toys, videogames, etc) that target children and youth in terms of stereotypes
 
Skills:
  • Experience with writing and editing required.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Word, and internet research recommended.
  • Flexibility & a capacity to multitask on deadline essential

Administrative & Operations

Works with the Operations Team to coordinate day-to-day office operations. Tasks will involve:
  • Finance & membership support,
  • Office organization and general administration
  • Grassroots outreach
  • Special event planning and details
  • Assistance with mailings & donor communications
 
Skills:
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Word, and internet research recommended
  • Flexibility & a capacity to multitask on deadline essential
  • Long term career interests in non-profit administration & operations a plus!
